Let’s face it, moving day is stressful, and on top of that, it can be expensive! Here are several tips on how to shave some of that stress by saving some of your hard earned money.
- Pack in advance
While most moving companies have services available to pack boxes for you, packing can be as costly or more costly than the move itself. Buy or find boxes, pack carefully, and make sure that your boxes are completely sealed. This will make for more speedy moving and efficient packing.
- Sort through your old/unneeded stuff as you are packing and preparing for your move.
It seems pretty simple, but over the year(s), you have accumulated stuff, a lot of which you don’t need. Don’t pay movers to move the stuff you don’t need anymore. Donate it, sell it, or trash it, but don’t move it!
- Clean up before your movers arrive.
Make the moving easier for you movers by having your home or apartment cleaned before their arrival. Movers will take longer and cost you more if they are having to clean off furniture and step over dirty clothes on the floor.
- Be organized and label your boxes.
Label your boxes as to their contents, and where they go in the new house. Make sure to orient your movers as to which room is which so they will know where to put boxes. Also, have an idea of where you want your furniture to go in your new house and how you want it set up. You’ll save money if they don’t have to readjust numerous items in your new home.
